Description

Chinese brass water-tobacco pipe with a flattened oval reservoir, tall curved smoking stem, and associated cylindrical fittings. Its engraved mountain-and-water landscapes feature distant peaks, birds, trees, rural architecture, and a radiating sun, imagery evocative of the traditional Chinese shanshui aesthetic and harmonious rural life. Contrasting brass finishes and a decorative cord with green bead lend the functional smoking apparatus an ornamental character. The piece reflects the historical Chinese practice of embellishing everyday smoking utensils with artistic landscape subjects.
