Chinese carved variegated stone figural group depicting a bearded elder accompanied by a youthful attendant, arranged among stylized rockwork or vegetation. Carved predominantly in relief and partially in the round, with detailed treatment of the elder's beard, robes and surrounding elements. The carver has selectively exploited the stone's natural honey-yellow, peach, reddish-brown and burgundy coloration to distinguish figures and features within the composition. The reverse is more broadly polished and minimally worked. Mounted on a fitted wood stand.Type of Sculpture
