Name/Title
Carved Bicolor Stone Figural Group of an Elder Carrying a Child with FishEntry/Object ID
SC1003Description
Chinese carved figural group depicting a bearded elderly man carrying or supporting a young child, accompanied by prominently carved fish. Worked from naturally variegated cream, pale pink and salmon-red ornamental stone, with the contrasting color zones deliberately incorporated into the composition. The compact group is carved substantially in the round, with detailed facial features, beard, hands and layered garments, while the fish are articulated with incised overlapping scales and fins. The imagery is broadly consistent with Chinese auspicious themes of abundance and descendants, although the precise narrative and identity of the principal figure remain undeterminedType of Sculpture
