Description

Chinese carved jadeite (feicui) openwork group depicting Buddhist lions (shishi) intertwined among dense scrolling, possibly lingzhi-form, elements. The pale gray-green to celadon stone displays darker green mottling and is extensively worked in high relief with pierced openings, undercutting, incised details and polished surfaces. The principal lion is shown with an open mouth and strongly modeled mane, with additional lion forms incorporated into the compact composition. Accompanied by an Identification Certificate of Gems & Jewelry issued by the Gem Appraisal Center of Peking University (PKUGAC), certificate no. Bd090400022, verification code 4129, recording the material as 翡翠 (feicui, jadeite jade), the object as a carved piece, weight 344.49 g, granular metamorphic/recrystallized structure under magnification, and 俗称A货, commonly termed “A-goods” or Type A.
