Substantial Chinese two-sided carved ornamental stone boulder depicting an extensive mountainous landscape populated by numerous figures among pine trees, bridges, pavilions, rock formations and a flowing watercourse. The principal face is densely worked in varying levels of relief, with groups of figures distributed through an interconnected landscape crossed by arched bridges. The reverse presents a quieter secondary composition dominated by a large gnarled pine tree with a figure and additional vegetation amid broad areas of exposed stone. Carved with relief, undercut, incised and textured details, with the natural contours, veining and coloration of the stone incorporated into the composition.Type of Sculpture
