SC1506Description
Chinese carved bicolor ornamental stone figure of a standing Luohan (arhat), depicted with shaved head, elongated ears and strongly modeled facial features, wearing a long monastic robe and holding a small unidentified object between his hands. The carving makes deliberate use of the stone's natural contrasting coloration, employing dark reddish-brown material for the head and hands and pale cream to gray-green material for the robe, with transitional gray and reddish areas across the figure. The robe is additionally decorated with small incised and darkened plant-like motifs. Mounted on an associated carved-wood stand.Type of Sculpture
