Name/Title
Carved Variegated Stone Figure with Giant PeachEntry/Object ID
SC2005Description
Chinese carved variegated ornamental stone figure depicting a smiling, rotund male carrying or embracing an oversized peach accompanied by a broad leafy branch. The exaggerated peach is an auspicious Chinese emblem associated with longevity and immortality. The identity of the figure remains undetermined and should not presently be assigned to a particular immortal or deity. The carving makes deliberate use of the stone's natural cream, pale yellow, peach-pink and reddish coloration to distinguish the figure, fruit and foliage.Type of Sculpture
