Carved Bicolor Stone Figure Holding an Auspicious Object
Name/Title
Carved Bicolor Stone Figure Holding an Auspicious ObjectEntry/Object ID
SC2006Description
Chinese carved bicolor ornamental stone figure depicting a standing robed male holding a rounded object before his chest, his precise identity and attribute undetermined. The carving makes deliberate use of the natural division within the stone: the figure is worked principally from a translucent honey-brown zone while a contrasting dark gray to black matrix mottled with white has been retained as a smoothly finished natural-form backdrop. The contrasting material continues through the base, indicating that the coloration forms part of the same stone.Type of Sculpture
