Chinese carved variegated ornamental stone boulder worked on both principal faces with mountainous landscapes. The more extensively carved face depicts two small human figures beneath precipitous overhanging rock formations, accompanied by trees and vegetation, while the reverse incorporates steep mountain forms, trees and small roofed pavilions. The carving makes deliberate use of the stone's natural cream, pale gray and honey-yellow coloration, contrasting broad polished mountain surfaces with areas of deeper relief and undercutting.
