Chinese carved variegated ornamental stone group depicting two squirrels climbing among a fruiting gourd vine, with overlapping gourds, broad leaves, blossoms and curling tendrils. The principal face is worked in relatively high relief with areas of openwork around the animals and foliage, while the reverse emphasizes the rounded segmented forms of the gourds and trailing vine. The carver has used the contrasting gray, taupe, cream and pale green coloration of the stone to differentiate the animals and foliage from the larger fruit forms.
