Green Mineral Scholar’s Rock on Inscribed Stone Base with Archaistic Deer MotifEntry/Object ID
SC2408Description
Chinese scholar's display object comprising an irregular green mineral specimen mounted within a shaped recess in a dark brown-purple stone platform and accompanied by a carved wooden stand. The mineral specimen retains an extensively nodular and cavernous natural formation, with colors ranging from dark green-black to vivid green.
The stone platform bears four large incised and gilt-filled Chinese characters, provisionally read from right to left as 藏珍閣藏 (Zangzhen Ge cang), approximately “Collection of the Zangzhen Pavilion.” Additional decoration includes an incised and white-filled archaistic deer with prominent antlers and geometric body ornament, smaller plant-like motifs, a pale circular element and a red-outlined vertical inscription cartouche that has not yet been deciphered.
The precise mineral identities of the green specimen and stone platform remain undetermined.Type of Sculpture
