Porcelain Tubular Vessel with Goldfish and Floral Decoration
Entry/Object ID
CR3703
Description
Chinese polychrome porcelain tubular object of elongated form, decorated with iron-red goldfish swimming among flowering and aquatic vegetation, colorful blossoms and blue rockwork, above an iron-red geometric border. The integrally formed ceramic body is continuously hollow, with a broad opening at one end and a rounded brown-glazed terminal pierced by a small central aperture at the other. The fish and botanical decoration forms an auspicious program associated with abundance and prosperity. Its unusual through-bore construction indicates a specialized functional object rather than a conventional vase or snuff bottle.
