SC2104Description
Set of four Chinese carved variegated ornamental stone miniature figural scenes, displayed together on a long carved wooden stand. The individual carvings depict a series of rustic or legendary subjects, including a bearded fisherman seated in a boat with basket and pole; a standing herdsman accompanied by an ox or water buffalo; a figure carrying a basket or bundle beside a small bridge, fence or related rustic structure; and a bearded figure carrying several objects or attributes. Each composition is worked into an irregular natural-form stone and makes deliberate use of contrasting gray-white, cream, yellow-brown and reddish areas to distinguish the figures, animals and accessories from the surrounding matrix. The four carvings are presented as a coherent set on an associated or fitted elongated carved-wood display stand.Type of Sculpture
