Description
Chinese porcelain snuff bottle modeled in miniature ewer form, with an ovoid body, elongated neck, projecting spout and opposing handle. The vessel is decorated in polychrome overglaze enamels with prominent pink peonies and dense scrolling foliage against an ochre-yellow ground, with extensive gilding to the spout, handle, mouth and stopper and a red geometric border encircling the lower body. A removable porcelain stopper with elongated hollow shank closes the mouth. The recessed glazed base bears an underglaze-blue four-character Qianlong nian zhi (乾隆年製) reign mark, considered apocryphal pending further research.
