Name/Title
Porcelain Snuff Bottle with Bird and ChrysanthemumsEntry/Object ID
SB3506Description
Slender Chinese porcelain snuff bottle of cylindrical form, decorated in polychrome overglaze enamels with a bird perched among flowering branches and large chrysanthemums. The bird is rendered in dark brown, black, and gray tones, contrasting with blossoms and foliage in pink, violet-blue, green, yellow, and iron red. Chrysanthemums traditionally symbolize autumn, longevity, resilience, and cultivated retirement in Chinese art, while the composition belongs to the established Chinese bird-and-flower (huaniao) pictorial tradition. A two-character iron-red mark appears within the recessed base.Category
