Pair of Metal Snuff Bottles with Applied Wirework and Colored Cabochons
Entry/Object ID
SB3510
Description
Pair of two white-metal snuff bottles of graduated size, each with a flattened rounded body, elongated cylindrical neck and flared pedestal foot. Both are ornamented with applied twisted-wire borders and looped wirework forming stylized floral and foliate designs, together with circular red and blue-green or blue cabochon-like insets. Applied beaded bands articulate the necks, while side loops support linked metal chains attached to the stopper assemblies. The larger bottle has a flattened circular body with a central red inset surrounded by symmetrical foliate ornament; the smaller bottle repeats the decorative vocabulary in a more compact form.
