Description
Chinese unglazed reddish-brown zisha stoneware teapot of broad rounded form, surmounted by an exceptionally tall rectangular overhead handle modeled as segmented bamboo. The fitted circular cover is surmounted by a vertical bamboo-form finial, while the vessel has a short angled spout. One side is decorated with lightly incised bamboo foliage in a calligraphic manner; the reverse bears an incised Chinese literary inscription accompanied by a smaller inscription or signature. A square four-character seal-script mark is impressed centrally within the recessed base, with additional faint impressed marks beneath the cover. China, Yixing tradition, probably 20th century; maker and precise date presently undetermined.
