Description
Chinese unglazed reddish-brown zisha-type stoneware teapot of rounded form with unusually tall overhead handle (提梁, tiliang) naturalistically modeled as an arrangement of tree branches. The vertical branch supports are joined by a horizontal branch across the top and modeled throughout with knots, cut branch ends and subsidiary growth. The fitted domed cover is surmounted by a naturalistic branch-form finial. The rounded body is decorated with lightly incised landscape and vegetation motifs. A square multi-character seal-script mark is impressed to the recessed base, with an additional impressed mark beneath the cover. China, Yixing tradition, probably 20th century; maker and precise date presently undetermined.
