Description

Riboki Riboki is one of seven identical boats that island resident Grandy Hoyt had built as Christmas presents for his wife and six female friends. He had originally had one built for himself as a runabout to take for jaunts between islands and quickly found the 15' boat a snap to handle. He hoped the nimble, easy to control boats would get his female friends out of the water at a time when women were not generally seen at the helm of a boat. This boat was originally given to his friend Margaret McConnell. It was written in an issue of "The Island Anchor" in 1989 that this boat was returned to Bobby Gerrard after Margaret had owned it. Eventually it ended up in the hands of Kenneth and Kathy Furnell who donated it to the TIBM. The runabout was in rough shape when it was donated to the museum in 2015, and it was restored by local high school students through the Museum's Boatbuilding Program. The boat was relaunched as "Riboki" (after RIver, BOat, and KIds) when the work was complete.
