From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p. 122:
EAST QUODDY HEAD LIGHT
Head Harbour Light, as it is called in the Canadian Federal Department of Transport-at ion's List of Lights, was built in 1829 on the outermost rock of East Quoddy Head, 80 feet north of the lighthouse. This is about nine miles from the 1962 F.D.R. Memorial Bridge to Lubec, at the far northern end of Campobello Island. The tower is painted white, with a red cross, while the iron "lantern" is red. Since 1915 there has been a foghorn. In 1960 the wooden tower was connected to the lighthouse keeper's home. At low tide it is possible to walk to the lighthouse, but at high tide the rock is cut off from the viewpoint across from the light. Tourists see whales here sometimes (as they do from Blacks Harbour, Grand Manan, N.B., ferryboat). East Quoddy Head Light is positioned to guide shipping north of the island. Fewer fishing boats than yachts are visible here, but most visitors come to photograph the Head Harbour Light itself. HB, JCB, CLFDT
