Dear Mr. Bailey;
At your request of my friend Stephen Petro, who visited your museum recently, I have enclosed pictures and brief comment on the clock that has been in my family for many years.
As you can see from the pictures, it is an eight-day clock. However, it is not operated by springs. The weight on the extreme right of the picture with the door open is very heavy. The label to the left of the pendulum, states that it was repaired in Calais Maine October 5, 1942. The label above the pendulum, partly obscuring the words Brass Clocks, indicates that it was sold by S. Adams, Calais/Milltown, Maine. (The first label showed that it was repaired by George Adams.)
We have used this clock, which kept very good time, but erratic striking of the hours, up until recently when it quit. We have been hesitant about having someone repair it, but hope to find a qualified repairman in our area.
Thank you for your interest in this clock. We would appreciate any comments that you might have.
Sincerely,
Walter L. Emery
