27) Masonic Block (NR) 32 Water St., 1887, Italianate. Rebuilt by the Masons after the 1886 fire, the first floor was for many years a variety and dry goods store operated by M.S. Mildon, who would later become one of the mayors of Eastport. The Masons held their lodge on the second and third floors until moving in the 1980s.

( ) From Eastport Sentinel, June 22, 1887, p.3,c.1: “The Red Beach Granite Company have an order for the corner stone of the few masonic hall. The stone is to be of polished red granite and(will contain the following inscription: “Laid by Masonic Fraterfity of Eastport, 5887.” The Fourth of July is the date fixed upon for the ceremony of laying the corner stone.”
