THE MANSION HOUSE.
General John Brewer, a shipbuilder in Robbinston, built his home on the St. Croix River about 1785. This two story wooden clapboarded building has a fanlight over the front door in which 1785 is engraved, contributing to the dating of the house. The glass enclosed cupola affords a wide view ofthe river and bay, and legend has it that this, spot was used as a lookout for British ships during the War of 1812. The house has a rectangular. ell on the north side and a barn which was a later addition. The Greek Revival porch was four Ionic columns on the east side and was probably added in the 1860s, when James Shepard Pike owned the house. The bay windows on the south side were added in 1873. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. AFN
