FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
The main part of the Congregational Church was built in 1858. It was a simple rectangular gable roof structure, designed by Leonard Peabody of Eastport, and built by Asher Bassford of Calais. In 1900 the church was extensively remodelled, and the clock and large ell were added. The tower has decorative woodwork framing the pointed apertures of the belfry, and this detail is repeated on the windows of the main body of the building. The First Congregational Church has stylistic features of the Victorian period of architecture. AFN
