Description

Charlotte, Maine From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p.38: THE CHARLOTTE TOWN HALL AND GRANGE HALL The initial planning to build the Charlotte Town Hall took place with the formation of a building committee in 1883. At a July 1883 town meeting it was agreed that the Charlotte Grange No. 253 would own and have the full use of the upper hall of the Charlotte Town Hall. The building was started subsequent to that date. In March 1889, the town voted to finish the town hall and left action to the selectmen. With the consolidation of the Charlotte Grange with the Cooper Grange in the early 1990s, the Town of Charlotte purchased the upper hall from the Grange. The second floor now contains the Charlotte Historical Society Historical Museum. Also in the early 1990s, office suite was added to the rear of the building to serve as town offices. ALC
