East Machias, Maine From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p.55: FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CmJRCH John E. Seavey built this Gothic Revival church in 1836. The three doorways on the front of the building are surmounted by arched windows with hooded arched lintels. The arch is repeated in the window design of the building and tower. The tower has a trefoil design with crenellation at two different stages; this crenellation is repeated on the body of the church. A wooden pinnacle stands on each side of the tower. The First Congregational Church is an excellent example of Gothic Revival architectUre, and is part of the East Machias Historic District.
