East Machias, Maine From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p.56: CAPTAIN FREDERICK DAVIS HOUSE Captain Davis came from Nova Scotia, and mm:ried the daughter of one of the Fosters who owned the shipbuilding yard once located near his homestead. James A. Tenney was the architect and master builder of this ltalianate house, which was completed in 1875. This hipped roof two and one-half story house has a porthole window in the center front of the third story and in a dormer in back. The windows are capped with arched and gabled lintels with dentil ornamentation, and the cornice has paired brackets. The front entrance has a one story portico with elaborate woodwork. The Davis House is situated off Route 191 on a bank overlooking the East Machias River.
