From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p.65:
FRED GILSON HOUSE
Fred P. Gilson was the son of Andrew Gilson, a prominent builder in town. He was the county jailor and later owned the first Ford agency in Machias, but assisted his father in some construction work and designed and built his own house on School Street in 1898-1899. This Queen Anne Victorian home has an interesting doorway with delicately carved woodwork, hipped roof, decorative shingles and unusual colored glass depicting one year of construction, 1898, in the third story of its gable tower. This house is still in the Gilson family.· AFN
