Machias, Maine From Sunrise County Architecture (2nd revised and enlarged edition) 1996, p.68: ANDREW GILSON HOUSE Andrew Gilson, a prominent builder in Machias, constructed his own house in 1869. He married a daughter of William Pennell, a Machias shipbuilder, who paid for the construction of the house as a wedding present. Distinctive characteristics of the structure are the mansard roof with dormer windows, the ornamental woodwork on the cornice, and the one story porch with columns in front. The house has been shingled and stands on North Street. AFN
