This house survived the Great Fire of 1886. David I. Odell was a prominent fish merchant, both retail and wholesale. After the death of Robert Kerr, the British Consul in Eastport had Odell appointed as a representative of England in place of a Consul (who had to be a British citizen).

...The modern-looking house further up which has for many years been the home of Daniel I. Odell, was one of these hipped room mansions built in 1820 by Daniel Drew, well remembered by all who had to pay taxes two score years ago. It afterward became the property of Humphrey Peavey. When James W. Ripley, who had been representative to congress from the Oxford district, was appointed collector of the District of Passamaquoddy he moved to Eastport and lived in this house.
