32. Godfrey-Patten House, c. 1860 - C New street
This large two-and-a-half-story frame dwelling combines, like many houses do in Cherryfield, what is essentially a Greek Revival style configuration with Italianate detailing. The former characteristics are evident in the pedimentedfacade and broad paneled corner pilasters whereas the latter are visible in the entrance porch, bracketed cornices and side bay window. Its original six-over-six windows survive. A narrow two-story ell and connected carriage house are located at the rear, whereas a barn stands off the southeast corner. The house is sheathed in weatherboards.
In 1861 O. s. Godfrey is indicated as the occupant of this house. otis Godfrey is listed in the 1857 Maine Register as a blacksmith and shipsmith. The subsequent owner, Frank W. Patten, was a merchant and shoe manufacturer whose store building (38) still stands.
