Description

This two and a half story wood frame house was built c. 1837 by Mr. Stephenson who also built the next door neighbor John McLarren house at 11 Washington Street for James Wheeler’s brother, Loring Wheeler. It has a four bay south side and a east side partially enclosed entrance. It has a gable roof with chimneys at each end. From Eastport House Tour, 2010: The James P. Wheeler House, 13 Washington Street, c. 1837 • From Eastport Sentinel, January 6, 1897, p.1,c.6-7: “Washington Street Baptist Church, and other Eastport Churches. — ... Mr. Stephenson afterwards built the two houses for the Wheeler brothers, Loring F. and James P., now the houses of Mrs. McLarren and Mr. W.J. Fisher. He also built the church at Dennysville in which we felt a family interest, as in those delightful vacation visits of my boyhood, I went on Sunday to meeting in the old school house.
