JASPER WYMAN HOUSE
Jasper Wyman; founder of the leading canning company, J. and E.A. Wyman Company, built his home on Route One in 1890. This Italianate two-story building has a cupola and widow's walk, and the east side center projecting gable has a distinctive pediment. The house has a bracketed cornice. The second story on the south side of the building was lengthened about 1930. An enclosed sun porch replaced a narrower porch on the south side around 1955. A bedroom was also added to the north side. The indoor swimming pool was built in 1977. The bam also has a cupola. J. Hollis Wyman, prominent state senator and son of the original owner, occupied the home until his death in 1990. Mr. Wyman's will leaves the house to the Maine Maritime Academy. TH
