Description

This two and a half story wood frame Greek Revival style house dates to about 1850. The house was built by the Millikens who owned what is now Milliken House across Washington Street, by or for their son. During the time the house was owned by Ted Cummings some of the second floor rooms where rented out with his children living in the 2 3rd floor rooms. Email from Bernie Cecire, owner of the house, on March 12, 2021: My deed is all I really know about the early history of my house. I have seen maps of Eastport from 1850 where the house is not shown and then maps from 1855 with the house present. The house was, as I understand it, built by the Millikens who owned, what is now Milliken House, by or for there son. They are somewhat similar. This one is Greek revival I am told (not being a student of history or architecture) – plaster wreaths over most of the doorways and windows and marble around the 2 parlor fireplaces. This location may have been used as a livery for the Millikens as I think they were big in coal and horses. I have always suspected that the home taken down was part of this property and perhaps connected at one time. Not sure where I got that idea from. On my own reproduction of an 1879 map the buildings are obviously separate. During the time the house was owned by Ted Cummings some of the second floor rooms where rented out with his children living in the two 3rd floor rooms. Ralph Hick’s wife, Diane, could add to this and perhaps more if you want to pursue it.
