Fisherman’s Boots, 1943
Wood Engraving
A fisherman’s boots rest alongside the weathered cedar shingles of the wharf architecture, with his jacket hanging above. The long shadows cast by the fisherman’s uniform indicate the end of a workday and an evening of deserved quiet relaxation. Set against the peacefully calm water in the background, the only sign of human activity is the uninhabited work clothes of the fisherman, accentuating the sense of tranquility. Inman created Fisherman’s Boots in 1939; she noted in her notebook that it is also called Maine Coast.
