Scope and Content

Twenty-five letters written by George Pearse Ennis to Carsen Davenport from 1929 to 1936. During this period, Ennis was the director of the summer art school program at Eastport, Maine. Davenport was an artist in Virginia who attended the summer program. Many of the letters are written from New York City where Ennis was affiliated with the Grand Central School of Art, the American Water Color Society, the American Artists Professional League and the George Pearse Ennis School of Painting. In addition to the 25 letters is a Western Union telegraph to Carsen Davenport from Keith Williams, Secretary of the American Water Color Society informing Davenport of the death of Ennis on August 28, 1936 from a car accident.
