Secretary Desk | Wadsworth-Raye Family | Circa 1840 | Eastport, Maine

Description

Gift from John Lester Raye, Canton, Connecticut, 2023 Telephone conversation with John Raye, October 19, 2023: John said the desk came from the house of his great-great-grandfather, George Ferdinand Wadsworth (November 1, 1808 - May 15, 1903), at 62 High Street in Eastport, Maine. The desk then descended to George's son, Henry Howard Wadsworth (March 1, 1833 - February 10, 1934), and to his house at 22 Key Street. The desk then descended to Henry's daughter, Mary Howard Wadsworth (July 13, 1872 - November 6, 1970), who never married and lived at 22 Key Street until she died in 1970. John's father, John Franklin Raye (September 27, 1918 - March 5, 2009), got the desk around 1960 and brought it to his home in Simsbury, Connecticut. His mother was Helen Prince (Wadsworth) Raye. John Franklin Raye had the desk restored by a well known furniture restorer in Riverton, Connecticut next to the historic Hitchcock Furniture Company. The desk then descended to his son, John Lester Raye, of Canton, Connecticut.
