Description

This one and a half story wood frame house likely was built around 1840. It appears on the 1855 map of Eastport, but not on the 1835 map of Eastport. It has a gable roof and a four bay front facing Middle Street. Two later dormer windows are on the west side of the roof. A later front entrance enclosed porch is attached to the north side of the house. The house was first the home of Lorenzo Sabine, an historian noted for writing the first history of the American Loyalists that was published by Little and Brown of Boston in 1847. The name Sabine is etched in a pane of window glass on the east side of the house.
