Dark Harbour, Grand Manan | Glass Magic Lantern Slide | R. Clinton Fuller | 1899Description
DARK HARBOUR, GRAND MANAN, 1899! Glass magic lantern slide in our collections that shows a view from 1899 of Dark Harbour on the western side Grand Manan island in New Brunswick. In the background are some of the massive cliffs along this side of the island. Dark Harbour is the only indentation in this long wall of cliffs. A natural seawall created a protective Dark Harbour pond that is famous for its Dark Harbour dulse seaweed. Fishing and the smoking of fish have long been associated with Dark Harbour. The slide was taken by R. Clinton Fuller of the Providence Camera Club of Providence, Rhode Island and is one of a large number of slides that have come into our collections that were taken by Fuller of the eastern coast of Maine and neighboring Canada in the 1880s and 1890s.
