Pembroke Ironworks, Pembroke, Maine Printed by L. Prang & Company, Boston Gift of Gerald "Bud" Forsyth, Eastport, Maine, 2024 From Facebook Group, Old Pictures of Eastport, Maine Bud Forsyth May 14, 2017 · Found some scrip at auction from the Pembroke Iron Works.....I'd never heard of them. A little research revealed that General Ezekiel Foster, an enterprising merchant from Eastport, was the originator of the Pembroke Iron Works, having commenced building the Works in 1832. He was apparently successful. In 1849, the "William E. Coffin and Company" of Boston bought the Works at the falls on the Pennamaquan river. They expanded and grew the Pembroke Iron Works and the company soon became a large business in the small town, with over 300 employees producing 5000 tons of iron products a year. The company also ran a fleet of ships to bring in coal for the furnaces and ship out the finished goods. The company failed in 1884.
