From Eastport Sentinel, December 22, 1869:
The thanks of the community are due the members of G. A. R. for their kindness in relinquishing their claim upon Memorial hall on Thursday evening last. After having made arrangements and issued notices for a dance that evening, when it was ascertained that the lecture committee desired it for the same evening, the dance was postponed and the hall given up for the lecture.
