-WATER066 Built:1929 Address: 66 Water Street Eastport, Maine HISTORIC DISTRICT Eastport Historic District The original Knights of Pythias (K of P) building was built in 1887 following the Great Fire of October 14, 1886 that leveled Eastport's downtown and waterfront. This original building had a victorian/italianate facade design and was about the same height and took up about the same space as the current building. This original building burned on February 10, 1928 (the largest fire since the Great Fire of 1886) and was replaced with the current building of different facade design. J.J. Newberry department store occupied the first floor of the new building until perhaps the 1970s along with having storage space on part of the second floor of the building. The Knights of Pythias fraternal lodge continued to occupy the third floor of the building along with part of the second floor of the building. 13) K of P Building (NR) 66 Water St., 1929. Leverett and Oscar B. Whalen had a dry goods store at this corner. The Knights of Pythias met on the third floor. The K of P was rebuilt after its 1928 fire and opened with J.J.
