THOMAS VOSE HOUSE, 1799, ROBBINSTON! Three photos from our collections that show the Thomas Vose house located along Route 1 in Robbinston, Maine. The first two photos, showing the front of the house, date to 2003 and the third, showing the south side of the house, was taken recently. The house was built in 1799 by Thomas Vose, a Robbinston shipbuilder. The bricks used in the construction of the house came from nearby Liberty Cove in Robbinston. The fanlight above the front door is covered over on the outside, but it contains 15 window panes that symbolize the 15 states making up the United States when the house was built. As far as we know, the house is the earliest brick federal period house still standing in Washington County, Maine. Locally, the Vose house is often referred to as the "Brick House."
