Description

Letter on City of Tontitown letterhead, dated July 6, 1964, to Honorable Jim Trimble, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. inviting him to the upcoming Tontitown Grape Festival giving details of the planned festivities. Letter is typewritten.

Context

Madeleine Panaggio found this letter and a magazine article about Tontitown in her father's [Leonard J. Panaggio] papers she was going through after his death. She sent them to the museum in case we wanted them. Otherwise she was going to discard them. There was a note about Mr. Eugene Aaron Box 44 Tontitown Arkansas on the cover of 64th Annual Grape Festival book. Madeleine did not know the connection her father had to Tontitown or why he would have these items.

CITY OF TONTITOWN TONTITOWN, ARKANSAS July 6, 1964 Honorable Jim Trimble U.S. House of Representatives Washington, D.C. Dear sir: The Grape Festival will be held on August 13th, 14th, and 15th this year. Delicious spaghetti suppers will be served each night from 5:30 to 9:00 followed by a dance until 12:00. The Victory Shows of Texas has been engaged to provide rides and entertainment for our visitors. Friday afternoon, a tour of vineyards will be made available to any interested persons who wish to participate followed by the judging of locally grown grapes. Queen Concordia LIVI will be crowned Friday night by Winthrop Rockefeller who will also give the principal address. Other dignitaries from the surrounding towns will be guests. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to come and participate in the Grape Festival activities. The Queen is selected from three candidates on the basis of the one receiving the most votes. Donations of one dollar entitle the donor to one vote for the candidate of his choice. In return his vote is put in a hopper for the drawing on the Chevelle to be given away. The queen will draw out the winner's name at 9P.M. Saturday. I hope this information is satisfactory. If any additional information is needed, please let me know. Sincerely yours, Harry Sbanotto Harry Sbanotto HS/bs
