Hand stitched, white cotton stuffed with wool. Yellow satin ribbon finish on top and bottom edges. Embroidered girls of multi-colored thread and fabrics all over the front.Context
This blanket was constructed during early World War II by former Tontitown residents who in the mid-1930's had migrated to Gilroy, CA. The families included surnames such as Bariola, Fiori, Pianalto, Tessaro, Maestri, Penzo, and Pellin. Routinely they gathered as a social unit at each other's home for dinners, conversations, and card games. They would share labor skills as well as jointly construct blankets and other utility items. It helped keep the group close to its Tontitown roots and Italian heritage. Quilt was sent to Brenda Pianalto from Frank and Clara's son and daughter Robert Pianalto and Loretta Pianalto Pappani after Clara's death on February 15, 2009. To be housed in the Tontitown Historical Museum.Collection
