Lap desk, wooden, two-fold design - first fold reveals flat writing surface, covered in replacement green felt; second fold reveals larger, slanted writing surface covered in replacement green felt - each half of larger writing surface lifts to reveal storage areas; lower storage area includes green ribbon tacked to lid in criss-cross pattern; upper storage area includes three small drawers (.1.2-4), bottom of .1 covered in ink manuscript; mostly indecipherable but appears to include a calendar in graph, with days of week down side; from of .2 marked "15"; label on underside of upper writing surface: "Bought of Wm. Dobson, Hardwareman, Stationer &c, Strand 166 London Dealer in fine Cutlery, Manufactures Pocket Books, Writing Desks, Shaving, Drefsing Cases, &c. By His Majesty's Royal Letters Patent..." plus listing of other items for sale and royal crest; area above writing area includes three compartments: first includes wooden pen trough (.2); third includes a square glass inkwell (.3) (no lid or cork); top lid appears to be missing a storage area; right side of desk has a full-length drawer with brass handle; another brass handle on left side, but no drawer; missing post lock for drawer; faceplate on lock on front is wooden; double post lock; bare pine bottom; rosewood top; c.
