Description

Tin folding lamp with rectangular base, domed lid and wire handle. 'Patent No. 57,988 William P. Smith, Louisville, KY, September 11, 1866. By its peculiar arrangment and construction, the lantern is capable of being folded into a compact form for transportation.' There is a paper label tied to it that says: "Smith's Patent Sept 11th 1866. W.P.X Smith. Sole proprietor Manufacturor Distributor." Folds open into three main parts; the rectangular base, half of the dome, and the other half of the dome. There is a latch to close it and holes creating circular shapes/decoration.
