Description

Double barreled percussion rifle with 'W. & G. Chance' engraved on both back action locks. Yellow metal (brass?) cheeck piece on right side of stock, being a latch mechanish to possibly hold gun powder. A deer's head (brass?) is on the left side of the stick, indicative of a well-appointed gun. The undersidce of the stock is engraved 'D E Warren Columbus', possibly being a later addition as the lettering is irregular. While the trigger, the cheekpiece, the deerhead and the butt end are made of a yellow metal, the barrel and the external hammers are made of a denser and darker metal. The external hammers have additional crescent and wave engravings. Appears as though a screw is missing from the receiver, part of the trigger. As well, the rod is a lighter wood compared to the barrel of the gun, which is much darker in tone. The number '154' is stamped on the top left hand side of the stock.
