Description

War of 1812 U.S. Army Hat, "Chapeau de Bras." Triangle configuration with brims turned up on two sides to cover the crown and form two corners or 'corns' (bicorn). The chapeau features two wide black ribbon bands on front. Off to the proper right side, a button ornamentation gives prominence to a patina silvered medallion of an eagle shield surrounded by stars that is sewn on. Ostrich feathers accentuate the crown while gold spring wires fringe both sides of the chapeau. Paper sweat band around the internal rim of the crown is loosening. Numerous holes on the outer brim, especially on the two corns.
