Description

Postal scale and six weights. 2019.3.1.1 postal scale: brass and iron on wood base, object pan inscribed: "Postal Rates For Letters Not Exceeding 1ozld, 2.1 1/2, 4.2, 6.2 1/2, 8.3", weights as adopted by the General Post Office for England and colonies in 1871 (5 Oct) - ref. Object Research sheet. Six weights inscribed with weight (oz.) measurements, weights are nested in three depressions in wood base, bottom of depressions are covered in worn fabric (velvet?); circa 1872. 2019.3.1.2-6 circular brass disk weights with oz. measurements engraved on upper surface. 2019.3.1.7 weight with knob (see drawing)
